NEW DELHI: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday rejected any possibility of allying with the BJP in the assembly polls next year, even after the repeal of the three contentious farm laws.
“700 farmers have died. We tried to convince the PM in Parliament that the three farm laws are not acceptable to the farmers. Whatever we said, turned out to be true,” Badal told reporters.
When asked about the possibility of an alliance with the BJP, the Akali Dal chief flatly said: “No”.

After the laws were passed, Union minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and wife of the SAD chief, had resigned from her office. She was the only minister from the party in PM Modi’s Cabinet.
Days later, the SAD exited the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), thus severing its ties with a party with which it first joined hands in 1996. The SAD was the oldest ally of the BJP.
